Design:
Here is a unique hand hammered pendant design creating a spider’s web. This is our design # 370 in our online style selection catalog. Inspired by nature as I sat drinking my coffee one morning and watching a spider in her web with several prey. The feature gem is mounted in a full bezel at the center as the spider and the accents are flush set on all sides of the feature gem, making it look like the little prey caught in the web. This web was made by ajoure work, sawed, cut and filed away by hand. Many would call this filigree, which would have been easier and less time consuming, but the ajoure does not have as much solder at the numerous intersections, thus will stay clean and bright longer. The backs are all open and the foundation base is slotted for better light entrance. The bail allows this exciting piece to dangle and is ornate with a ribbed design.
Specifics:
The feature gem is a pretty pink Sapphire from Burma with SI2 moderate clarity, heated traditionally, a natural gem measuring 6.0 x 5.7 x 2.6 mm and weighing .77 carat
The accents are eight purple Amethyst all natural and untreated also from Burma in 2.1 mm slightly included clarity rounds.
The entire piece measures about 38 mm from top to bottom. The bail will accommodate your chain up to approximately 3.5 mm. This fine piece weighs about 4.5 grams.
