The feature of this unique pendant is a cabochon that has two insects, one of them a biggie, that have been trapped for thousands of years in this natural Copal, young Amber from the Columbia. I had this soft stone cut into this oval shaped cabochon with proper orientation so the insect inclusions can be easily seen. They have been trapped for many years in this natural stone. Copal is a partially fossilized tree resin often over 100,000 years old. This untreated natural gem weighs 8.58 carats and is about 22 x 14 mm. Copal is very difficult to set into a piece of jewelry as it is only about a 2 on Moh’s scale, however, this one survived the challenge!
The pendants overall length is about 43 mm and it will accommodate your chain up to about a 5 mm. This unique piece weighs about 10.6 grams.
